
NPS is home to three peacocks and three peahens. They are valued residents of the campus and serve as the unofficial mascots of the school. The names chosen by NPS students, faculty and staff are as follows:
Peacocks:
Dudley - Named after Dudley Knox, Influential Naval Historian. The NPS library is also named after Dudley Knox.
Mickey - Named after Mickey Rooney, Famous Actor and guest at the Hotel Del Monte
Scuttle (The Youngest Peacock) - Named after the nautical term for a small opening or hatchway in the deck of a ship.
Peahens:
Ginger - Named after Ginger Rogers, Famous Actress and guest at the Hotel Del Monte
Grace - Named after RADM Grace Murray Hopper, the first female Rear Admiral in the Navy.
Lilly - Named after RADM Lillian Fishburne, the first African American female to hold the rank of Rear Admiral. RADM Fishburne is also an NPS graduate.
