
Admiral Henry H. Mauz retired from the Navy in November, 1994. He served over 35 years on active duty after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. His initial assignments were on destroyers in the Pacific Fleet, followed by a tour in Vietnam where he was in charge of ten River Patrol Boats operating on the rivers in the Mekong Delta. Admiral Mauz went on to command three ships; a minesweeper, a guided missile destroyer and a cruiser. His professional education included the Naval Postgraduate School, the Air Force Command and Staff College, and the Naval War College. As a flag officer, Admiral Mauz commanded the carrier battle force that conducted operations against Libya in 1986. He later commanded the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the far east and Naval Forces Central Command during Operations Desert Shield. He was the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations and Commander in the U.S. Atlantic Fleet from 1992-1994 before retiring in 1994.
Personal decorations include five awards of the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Combat "V", the Meritorious Service Medal, and three awards of the Navy Achievement Medal. Foreign awards include the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, the Canadian Meritorious Service Cross, and the French Merit National.
Upon retirement from the Navy, Admiral Mauz and his wife Peggy moved to Pebble Beach, California. Admiral Mauz is Chairman of the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation. He also serves on the boards of Texas Industries, Inc. and Conway Inc., as well as on the Advisory Council of Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Inc.
