Desiree Dillehay

Desiree comes to the NPS Foundation with a wealth of experience in government public affairs and U.S. Army Service. In her role as Director of communications, she develops and executes strategic communication plans, manages digital communication activities, supports corporate partnership outreach, and engages with NPS leadership, students and alumni to foster both the Foundation’s and the school’s vision.

She has a Master of Professional Studies in Strategic Public Relations from The George Washington University, and is a graduate of the Public Affairs Qualification Course at the Defense Information School.

Prior to the Foundation, Desiree worked in public affairs as a Department of the Army civilian at U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria in Germany, the Seattle Army Recruiting Battalion, and U.S. Army Garrison Fort Benning. She has also worked in the corporate sector as a publicity director for a publishing company in Minnesota and as a marketing representative for a promotional product company in Tennessee. Simultaneously, she served as an officer in both the Army National Guard and Army Reserve for 12 years. She has deployed to the Middle East as a future operations and public affairs officer with a Military Engagement Team, where she collaborated with foreign military partners, state department officials and other DOD entities to enhance international cooperation in 13 different countries.

Her many global experiences include strategic communication, issues management and crisis communication, media relations, employee communication, journalism, photography, web and graphic design, and digital media management.

Desiree is married to Michael, an active-duty Army officer, and they have two young children and two dogs. She enjoys gardening and cooking, and as a family they enjoy traveling, exploring cultures and food, and hiking.
