Athena: Maximizing Collaborative Research

 

Developed to better apply the on-going research by operationally experienced Marines at the Naval Postgraduate School, Athena is an online collaborative research tool that allows researchers, sponsors, and leaders across the Naval Education Enterprise to access and query information currently stored in numerous separate databases. By connecting NPS students and faculty with research topics that the Navy or other branch has identified as important, Athena furthers NPS' mission of timely research in support of our nation's defense. The platform also allows for researchers across Naval education to connect when their research coincides.

Dr. Blanken recently co-authored an article for War on the Rocks discussing the potential of maker-spaces in support of partner nations. The informal workshops emphasize knowledge sharing, experimentation, and the use of technological tools that have low barriers to entry. Read more

Hall of Fame Induction

Following the SGL with ADM Haney, VADM Edward Moore Jr., USN Retired, was inducted into the Naval Postgraduate School Hall of Fame. Former commander of the Carl Vinson Task Group and Cruiser-Destroyer Group 3 as well as the first African American commander of an Aegis cruiser, VADM Moore holds a degree in Management from NPS. He was Vice President for Anteon, and later General Dynamics Information Technology after retiring from the Navy. He continues to serve by volunteering with homeless veterans and youth and on several boards of directors. Read more.

 

February Virtual SGL

On February 16, NPS will present it's next Virtual SGL featuring Dr. William Phillips. Dr. Phillips received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1997 for the development of methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light. He will speak to the NPS community about recent reforms in the International System of Units (SI) and how they relate to the field of meteorology. Read more.

Essay Contest

The NPS Foundation/U.S. Naval Institute Annual Essay Contest is open to NPS students, faculty, and staff. The contest encourages writing for publication and critical thinking among students, faculty, and staff at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. NPS Teaching & Learning Commons

 

NPS has been in almost complete distance learning for almost a full year. The move to virtual instruction was a swift one during the winter and spring quarters last year. The "Pathway to the Future" project started in 2002 as a fundraiser for the NPS Foundation. The marble bricks are located on Menneken Loop at the end of Spanagel Hall on the NPS Campus.

Make your mark on the NPS campus with a custom brick on our “Pathway to the Future.” These bricks serve as memorials for parents, grandparents, and colleagues, or a way to honor special events, people, and family members. For $100, it’s a unique, lasting way to remember and mark your connection to NPS.
