Admiral William McRaven, USN (ret.), will be the next speaker featured in the NPS Secretary ot the Navy Guest Lecture series. At a time when the health of the United States economy has become even more important and addressing the domestic and international challenges we face requires business and government to work together more closely than ever, Admiral McRaven will focus on leadership. "Leadership from the Battlefield to the Boardroom" will be the subject of his presentation and the Q & A to follow. We are pleased to share that this virtual dialogue is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM (PST). CHDS Continues to Provide COVID-19 Resources

 

The Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) continues its Executive Education Program (EEP) with two upcoming webinars.During the COVID-19 response, the CHDS EEP is working with experts from around the globe to provide real-time educational opportunities, identify emergent practices, and develop resources to support executives, practitioners, and educators during the pandemic. Recent webinars are available here.

On June 10, Dr. Sheri Fink (Pulitzer Prize winning author of Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital) will discuss her recent experiences embedded in New York hospitals during the COVID-19 response and the ethical dilemmas presented by this crisis. Register here.

On June 17, "What Does Strategic Planning For Reopening Look Like When You Cannot Strategically Plan?" will be a panel discussion on how organizations are planning and determining policies for reopening and resumption of business in the "new normal" when science, data, and public expectations are changing daily. Register here.

CLO Offers Insight on COVID-19 Effects on Higher Education

Navy Chief Learning Officer John Kroger offered ten predictions of the effects of COVID-19 on the future of higher learning. Read more. In his February 2020 visit to NPS, CLO Kroger spoke of the importance of ongoing education for military leaders and the potential for online courses. Read more.

 
 

The Big Ideas Exchange (BIX) began on May 27th with five presentations from students at NPS, the Naval War College, and Marine Corps University. On May 12, Assistant Secretary of the Navy James Geurts announced Monterey as the location of one of six new Tech Bridges. The Central Coast (C2) NavalX Tech Bridge will be directed by NPS Associate Dean of Research for Technology Development Christopher Manuel. Read more.

 
 

NPSAAF Corporate Engagement

As part of its efforts to support the strategic priorities of the Naval Postgraduate School, the NPSAAF has embarked on an effort of corporate engagement. To further the school's achievements in the targeted areas of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber, Autonomy, and Additive Manufacturing, the foundation is working to establish relationships with key businesses. Private industry support will further advance the extraordinary educational experience at NPS and provide opportunities for research collaboration between NPS students and faculty and industry experts. The effort will also facilitate corporate gifting of technology that will support research on campus.

Dan Quayle served as the 44th Vice President of the United States and as a Representative and Senator for the state of Indiana. He is also an attorney and author. Read more.

 
 

Admiral Henry Mauz, Jr. retired after a 35-year career in the Navy with commands ranging from Operation Desert Shield to the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. A former President of the NPS Alumni Association & Foundation, ADM Mauz resides in Pebble Beach. Read more.

 
 

Admiral Thomas Fargo, USN (Retired), commanded the U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM), the largest unified command and had multiple assignments in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He serves on several boards of directors, including the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation. Read more.

 
 

ADM William McRaven, USN (Retired), was the Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) as well as the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). He is the former Chancellor of the University of Texas at Austin and an author. Read more.

 
 

Each quarter, NPSAAF awards select NPS faculty and students based on exceptional leadership and academic abilities. The spring awards ceremony was prevented by safety restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, but each recipient will still receive their award.
