NPS Joint Interagency Field Experimentation connected emerging tech companies with NPS students, faculty, and research facilities in an effort to bridge the gap between private and public needs. Experiments conducted at the Sea Land Air Military Research (SLAMR) facility and Camp Roberts California National Guard base provided numerous federal agency representatives a first look at the new products and helped emerging companies better understand the huge federal government marketplace. Perhaps most exciting was the participation of NPS alumnus Todd Forsman as a facilitator of public-private collaboration through his company Levenhall. He returned to Monterey to showcase TMGcore's high-performance computing system with a proprietary capability to enable high-performance computing at the Tactical Edge on a portable data center.


Forsman's experience as a U.S. Marine Foreign Area Officer gives him insight into the national security ecosystem with which companies like TMGcore hope to connect. Read more.


The Big Ideas Exchange 2021 brought together current NPS students, faculty, and senior leaders of the Department of Defense and industry in a hybrid format. In "TED Talk" style, six students presented innovative concepts addressing current and emerging national security challenges. The U.S. Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force officers covered topics ranging from artificial intelligence to autonomous systems to transregional Foreign Area Officer programs.

NPS Updates

Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Plans and Strategy (N3/N5), and Flag Sponsor for the Navy Foreign Affairs Officer community, Vice Adm. Philip Sawyer visited the NPS recently to observe the institution’s interdisciplinary academics relevant to Navy operations and strategy that lead to effective and globally aware officers for the fleet and joint force. Sawyer visited several labs and engaged with faculty and students about their research that makes the fleet better.  Read more.

Chief of Naval Research Rear Adm. Lorin C. Selby spoke virtually to NPS students, faculty and staff about “Re-Imagining the Future Force,” how the U.S. military is changing, and how NPS helps enable this vision, through applied research and well-educated service leaders during the latest Secretary of the Navy Guest Lecture (SGL), May 25.
